An original from … (VIII) HERBERT BRANDL | SEVDA CHKOUTOVA | GUNTER DAMISCH | KARL KARNER | THOMAS REINHOLD | GABI TRINKAUS | UTA WEBER | OTTO ZITKO
HERBERT BRANDL
Brandl’s oeuvre deals with atmospheres and states, the material of colour and the painterly gesture, the inner tension and the intensification of the conflict between colour and light.
SEVDA CHKOUTOVA
deals with constructions of femininity. She poses provocative questions about shame, morality and female desire between social attributions, norms and constraints.
GUNTER DAMISCH
did not depict the world. But he was a world builder who opened up the space of the two-dimensional canvas with his spiky flagellated animals and stick figures – into infinity.
KARL KARNER
His aluminium casts tell a story which, however, is deconstructed in its function and makes the absurdity of certain processes clear with an irritating, deformed counter-world.
THOMAS REINHOLD
Images are not simply ‘seen’, but trigger associations, appeal to what is remembered, heard and imagined. His works are both images and means of communication.
GABI TRINKAUS
describes herself as a ‘media thief’. She uses collages to create an aesthetic associated with the world of advertising and iconic faces, playing with seduction in the process.
UTA WEBER
works with the enlargement of forms that can be read as universal signs for everyday objects, but also function as geometric-abstract sculptures.
OTTO ZITKO
the line – Zitko owes his obsession with the line as the art of painting of our time to this fascination with artistic creation as a seemingly archaic achievement of human originality.
