SUSE KRAWAGNA
1964 * in Klagenfurt
1983-1988 Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, (Prof. Arnulf Rainer)
1988-1990 Stay in London, Royal College of Art
It is not so much the seemingly striking motifs and narrative codes that can be named, but rather an analytical visualization of the fundamental abstract elements of painting: trace, composition, surface, space, color.
She is no longer concerned with the new, avant-garde, the purist as a response to conventional naturalistic, figurative academicism, but with a commitment to the values of abstract painting, and with generating independent pictorial designs in gradual zones.
The abstract image exists at a subdued volume in today’s pluralistic visual world – perhaps as a meditative, calming “counter-world” in our overstimulated society.

ESTHER STOCKER
1974 * in Schlanders, Italy
1994 Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna (Prof. Eva Schlegel)
1996 Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Milan, Italy
1999 Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California
Esther Stocker expresses herself in lines, grids and right angles in the non-colors black and white. She belongs to a contemporary generation of artists who work in the tradition of geometric constructivism, but with their own perspective and philosophy.
The disturbances that Stocker creates in her narrow grids raise questions about the relationship between order and chaos, reality and fiction, foreground and background, precision and fleetingness, certainty and ambiguity.
The artist thus invites the viewer to reflect on the systems and structures of society that consciously and unconsciously organize and direct us.
