Unexcited everyday material aesthetics, shifts in perception, irritations of vision and the resulting awareness of deceptive mechanisms are characteristic of the work of Markus Wilfling (*1966). In the development of his sculptures, whose starting points are often objets trouvées or faked readymades, he pushes his investigations into the absurdity of the world. In doing so, however, he does not pretend, it is not he who illudes, but he explores the possibilities of material facts into whose supposed reality the viewer tips over. Learned brain functions are called into question, while at the same time memories take on a life of their own and become unhinged.
