Maria Legat

1980 *Villach, Austria.

2009-2018 Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (AT) Contextual painting with Ashley Hans Sheierl and later with Daniel Richter.
Lives and works in Lower Austria.
Legat's paintings are political, yet not reactions to the politics of the day; they are theoretically grounded, yet not illustrations of zeitgeist flagship theorists; they are personal, yet not an expression of individual mythologies. Legat draws and paints parables about the state of the world, entangles the viewer in a dense web of problems and evokes the question of one's own involvement. Roman Grabner
