Karen Holländer

1964 born in Tübingen, Germany
1983/84 Study visit in Paris, Académie Peninghen
1984-89 Studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, Diploma

Karen Holländer draws on her archive of the visual in her pictures as well as in her texts. However, these are views of her surroundings that are not alien to the viewer either and sometimes also correspond to her own experience to a great extent. But it is only through the transformation into the medium of painting that it is possible to make them visible. Embedded in the sceneries of her objects, Karen Holländer's portraits evoke a narrative ambience in a very reduced and concrete framework.
reduced and concrete framework. Karen Holländer does not paint with an extravagant baroque brushstroke, she does not play with the effects of light and shadow, but stages her pictorial drama clearly and with a formalistic approach. This, however, with an inescapable presence.
