MICHAEL KIENZER
1962* in Steyr
1977–79 School of Arts and Crafts in Graz, sculpture with Josef Pillhofer
2001 Otto-Mauer-Prize, Wien
Michael Kienzer’s sculptural works and site-specific installations are characterized by opposites such as ‘attraction and distance’ and provoke, through purposefully placed material connections and formal irritations, questions about a reordering of the circumstances. Naturalistic elements loosen up the usual strict compositions. This results in small, funny and absurd stories. The formal dominates the narrative in favor of a balanced composition.
MARKUS WILFLING
1966* in Innsbruck
1988 – 89 Kunstgewerbeschule Graz, painting with Gerhard Lojen
1989 – 93 University of Applied Arts Vienna, sculpture with Bruno Gironcoli
Deconstruction and perceptual irritation – these are the central motifs of Markus Wilfling, an artist who tries to reveal a hidden truth with the means of his aesthetics.
JAKOB GASTEIGER
1953* in Salzburg
1970 – 1974 University of Music and Performing Arts Salzburg
Gasteiger is influenced by “radical painting” and “minimal art”, whose protagonists did not strive for any content. The spatula makes it possible to question the limits of graphics, painting and sculpture without personal handwriting in the sense of a mechanical process.
ROBERT SCHABERL
1961* in Feldbach
1979 – 85 art education at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg
“I’m interested in not only letting colors float on the canvas, but also letting them actually change. By using pigments that do not have their own color but reflect colored light, the picture actively communicates with the viewer and often enters into an unexpected dialogue with them.”
